Here come 1st grade Astronauts!

We started our space unit this week and we are LOVING it! Our unit will focus on the Earth, Sun and Moon. Today, we started our exploration of the planet we live on, Earth!

We started by sharing our schema on the Earth. Our class knew so much already about the Earth. 
        -We live on Earth. -Esohe
        -There is gravity on Earth.-Jackson
        -There is air on Earth. - Brandon

Then we read the first of many space books. We learned even more!
        - The Earth is a big rock.-Manny
        - It is the 3rd planet from the Sun. -Makayla
        - The Earth has a core. It is hot. -Justin

We did some more research on the Earth using the ipads and Kidrex.org and we added more to our Earth chart. 

This afternoon we did a fun activity to answer the question: Is there more land or water on the Earth. 

We tossed a globe beach ball to each other and charted the how many times our thumbs landed on water (the clear part) and land (the colored parts). 

 And the results are...There is more water on Earth!
