1st grade geologists!

We started out rock unit this week and we have already learned so much!

We began by listing all the schema we already have on rocks. Some responses include:

• Rocks can be bigger than people. -Brayden
• Rocks are different shapes. -Sam
• A diamond is a rock. -Noah
• Rocks can be in different places. -Esohe
• They are colorful. -Sydney

We discussed different properties of rocks as well. There are many ways to describe and sort rocks. 

Today, we were so lucky to spend some time with Mrs. Baker's class. Both classes read the book, Everybody Needs a Rock, in the reading lounge. It was so nice to read with Mrs. Baker!

After we read the story and talked more about properties of rocks, we all got to choose our own rock. Next week, first graders will draw and write the properties of their rock.
